The Chinese town of Pingyao is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a traditional Han Chinese city, founded in the 14th century. Its urban fabric shows the evolution of architectural styles and town planning in Imperial China over five centuries. Over the years, many of the old building have been renovated and modified, windows and doors have been added and subtracted to the ancient building, leaving a ghostly reminders of how cities, homes and indeed people change over time.
